Your TraceMyIP account stores visitor traffic information across multiple databases. This structure helps the system process incoming tracking data efficiently while maintaining fast report access and reliable database management. Each type of report uses a specific log, and the available log capacity depends on your subscription level.
Please note that these limits are not applicable to the UnFiltered Stats logs which are controlled internally by the WP plugin.
There are two main types of visitor traffic acquisition limits. These limits help balance the overall network load and maintain consistent performance for users assigned to the same network node:
- Daily Page Load Limit – controls how many times the visitor tracking code can be loaded each day.
- Data Storage Limit – controls how much statistical or detailed visitor information can be retained in specific logs.
These limits serve different purposes. Reaching the daily page load limit temporarily stops new traffic collection for the affected project. Reaching the storage limit does not stop tracking. Instead, the oldest detailed entries are replaced as new activity is recorded.
Type 1: Daily Page Load Limit
The Daily Page Load Limit can range from 6,000 to 150,000 clicks or page loads per day for each project. The exact allowance assigned to your account depends on your subscription level.
This limit does not determine how much visitor data can be stored. It only controls how many times the TraceMyIP visitor tracker code can load in visitors’ browsers during a daily tracking period.
For example, suppose your subscription provides a daily page load limit of 6,000. If one project receives more than 6,000 page views within a 24-hour period, that project will stop recording additional visitor activity for the remainder of the day. Normal visitor logging will automatically resume the following day.
The limit is applied separately to each project. Activity on one high-traffic project does not use the page load allowance of another project created under the same account.
If a project repeatedly reaches its daily limit, you should consider upgrading the account to a subscription level with a larger daily page load allowance. When the limit has been reached, a notice will appear next to the affected project name in your account.
Type 2: Data Storage Limit
TraceMyIP uses several logs to store different categories of visitor data. Some logs contain summarized chart statistics, while others contain detailed information about individual page views and click events.The storage capacity and retention period of each log depend on the type of information it contains and, where applicable, the subscription level assigned to the account.
Hourly Hits Log
The Hourly Hits Log is used to generate hourly chart statistics. It stores summarized counts for the following measurements:
- Total Pages Viewed
- Unique Visits
- First Time Visitors
- Returning Visitors
This log can retain statistics for up to 336 hours. It allows you to review traffic activity hour by hour for as far back as 336 hours, depending on the log size included with your subscription level.
The Hourly Hits Log contains summarized traffic counts rather than the complete details of every individual visitor session or page view.
Daily Hits Log
The Daily Hits Log is also used for chart statistics. It stores daily totals for:
- Total Pages Viewed
- Unique Visits
- First Time Visitors
- Returning Visitors
Unlike the Hourly Hits Log, the Daily Hits Log does not have a limited retention period. It stores daily statistics from the first day a project begins collecting visitor activity.
You can return to the beginning of a project’s history whenever you need to review its daily visitor counter reports. The Daily Hits Log is not restricted by the storage size of the Real Time Visitor Details Log.
Real Time Visitor Details Log
The Real Time Visitor Details Log stores detailed tracking information about each individual page view or click. Depending on the available data for an event, an entry may include:
- Referrer information
- Geographic information
- Network information
- IP address information
- Campaign tracking details
- Page-view information
- Other data associated with the visitor or click event
This detailed log supplies information to the following live traffic reports:
- Visitor Map
- Visitor List
- Page Load Details
- Came From
- Keywords
- Campaigns Page View Details
The Real Time Visitor Details Log is also used for the cumulative statistics available through the report drop-down menu. These reports are grouped into the following categories:
- Traffic
- Pages
- Visitors
- Platforms
- Geo
Link Tracker and Page Tracker Logs
Link Trackers and Page Trackers maintain their own daily, monthly, and yearly hit logs. The retention period for these logs is determined by the subscription plan assigned to the account.
When a Link Tracker or Page Tracker is triggered, the event is counted in the applicable tracker log. A detailed visitor activity entry is also added to the Real Time Visitor Details Log. This additional entry allows the account to provide more information about the visitor and the individual click event.
How Real Time Log Capacity Works
Depending on your subscription level, the Real Time Visitor Details Log can store between 500 and 18,000 entries for each project created under the account.
Every recorded visitor activity uses one database entry in this log. A page view normally occupies one entry, and a tracked click also occupies one entry.
For example, if your subscription provides a Real Time Visitor Details Log capacity of 500 entries, each project can retain detailed information about its 500 most recent page views or click events.
Once the log reaches its maximum capacity, TraceMyIP continues monitoring the project. New entries are added while the oldest entries are removed. This creates a continuously updating record of the project’s most recent detailed visitor activity.
Reaching the Real Time Visitor Details Log limit does not stop visitor tracking. It only changes which detailed entries remain available. The newest visitor activity is retained while older detailed activity gradually leaves the log.
How Long Detailed Visitor Information Is Retained
The Real Time Visitor Details Log is not automatically purged after a fixed number of days. Its practical retention period depends on the amount of traffic received by the project and the number of entries available under the subscription.
Existing entries remain in the log until new visitor activity is captured. Each new entry replaces the oldest entry after the log has reached its maximum capacity.
For example, if a project has a 500-entry log and receives only 500 page views during an entire year, the detailed information associated with those page views may remain available for as long as a year. If the same project receives 500 page views in a single day, the detailed log may represent only the most recent day of activity.
A larger log therefore provides better retention for detailed visitor records, particularly on websites that receive frequent page views or tracked clicks. It can also improve the usefulness of reports that depend on detailed visitor information.
Daily Traffic Counts Are Stored Separately
The size of the Real Time Visitor Details Log does not affect the daily hit counts stored for visitor counter reports.
When an old detailed visitor entry is replaced, the corresponding daily traffic total is not deleted, reduced, or modified. Daily hit statistics are maintained separately and remain available through the Daily Hits Log.
This distinction is important when reviewing historical reports. You may still see the total number of visits or page views recorded on an older date even when the individual visitor details from that date are no longer available in the Real Time Visitor Details Log.
Ways to Preserve Real Time Visitor Log Space
You can extend the useful retention period of the Real Time Visitor Details Log by preventing unnecessary or unauthorized activity from occupying entries. TraceMyIP provides several controls for managing which traffic is recorded.
Log Filter
The Log Filter can prevent search engine bots and other non-essential indexing scripts from being recorded in the detailed visitor log.
Automated systems may access website content frequently. Excluding traffic that you do not need to analyze leaves more log space available for relevant human visitor activity.
Domain Tracker Security
Domain Tracker Security helps prevent unauthorized click activity from being recorded when a copy of your visitor tracking code has been taken and placed on a domain other than the website specified in your project.
Without this restriction, activity generated from an unauthorized domain could consume entries in the project’s Real Time Visitor Details Log.
To access Domain Tracker Security, open the My Projects page and click the project’s Edit link.
Selective Tracking
Selective Tracking allows you to specify which countries should be included in or excluded from visitor tracking.
This option can be used to reduce irrelevant entries and keep the visitor log focused on the geographic traffic that matters to you. By excluding activity that does not need to be analyzed, you can make more effective use of the available Real Time Visitor Details Log capacity.
Identifying the Log Used by a Report
When viewing reports in your account console, you can determine which type of log space is used by a particular report.
Hover your mouse over the information icon located below the Visitor Map button in the upper-right area of the account console. The displayed information identifies the log associated with the report you are viewing.
Exporting Reports
Reports can be saved to local storage by using the export icons displayed below each report.
Exporting a report allows you to retain a local copy of the available information before older detailed entries are replaced by new visitor activity. This can be useful when you need to preserve detailed records beyond the active capacity of the Real Time Visitor Details Log.
